A recent study published by the American Psychological Association, 2010, Stress in America showed a new connection between overweight children and stress.
Richard Ruiz, the owner of STAC (Strength Training and Athletic Conditioning) teaches his clients to reprogram their bodies so they can respond to stress. He advises using high- intensity bursts of activity and movement. This will stimulate a release of human growth hormone those ‘feeling good’ endorphins that will serve as stress busters. By taking short bursts of high energy you are fighting back at the cortisol in your body that gets released during stress. The cortisol actually keeps your body to hold on to fat.
Remember, last week I told you to walk around the block with your kids… try short bursts of walking faster and get the kids to run and then walk. This will help the whole family combat stress and the added plus is that you will all sleep better!
*To add another boost to stress busting try ten minutes of meditation. Sit with your eyes closed and just pay attention to your breathing. Stopping during your day will help you focus and recharge.
