Teens | Pregnancy | TV…What they have in common

I was reading the newspaper this morning and and saw this headline.
“PREGNANCIES TIED TO TEEN TASTES IN TV”
A new study linked viewing
habits of teens to teen pregnancy. According to Anita
Chandra,at Rand Corp, who is a behavioral scientist, teens who watched the raciest shows were twice as likely to become pregnant over the next three years as those
who watched few such programs!
The study was released today in the Nov. issue of Pediatrics. It involved 2,003 12-17 yo girls and boys nationwide questioned by telephone about their TV viewing habits in 2001.
Shows that impacted kids:
- ‘Sex in the City’
- ‘That 70′s Show’ &
- ‘Friends’
What does this mean for you and your kids?
- Monitor TV
- Watch TV with your kids
- Consider Unplugging
- Talk, Talk, Talk with your kids
And there is help…
In my book, ‘How To Take Back Your Parenting Powers System‘ there is a chapter on how to control TV use in the home.
Best wishes for a peaceful home,
Susan
