Parenting Challenges: It’s a scary, dangerous world…
Posted by Susan Epstein on March 21st, 2010 at 12:32pm
During this weekend, I began to think about all the families that I work with and the issues facing families today that just
weren’t even fathomable in 1976, the year that I graduated from high school.
Like…
-AIDS
-911
-Columbine
-Medicating Kids for ADD
-The PC
-The Internet
-Cell phones…texting…FB, MySpace
-Meth Labs
-The Cost of a College Education
and….
-All the ACTIVITIES!
just to name a few… soccer, dance classes, music lessons, tutoring…
It just wasn’t that dangerous then, it wasn’t that complicated and it certainly wasn’t that expensive.
As a parent you have your work cut out for you…and my hat is off to you…this is a
24/7 job where you cannot afford to even look the other way for 1 minute. Our kids face difficult choices on a daily basis.
Your kids need your supervision, your encouragement, your emotional connection, not to mention your financial support.
And…it’s not all scary…some of it is incredibly cool…your kids can write a 10 page term paper without having to go to the library
When I think of how long it took me to write, type and correct my term papers in high school…life without computers!
Information is at our fingertips…
Help is only a key stroke away…
You can get parenting help no matter where you live…via the internet and telephone…
So if you need direction and answers in these confusing times…don’t put it off…your kids are living in really challenging times and they need you now more than ever in history to guide, love and nurture them towards their adulthood.
