“Expect nothing; live frugally on surprise.”

-Alice Waters

I planted a vegetable garden about 6
weeks ago. Lettuce, pole beans,
tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs.
Every day I go out and check it. For
weeks very little happened…and then
today I went out to check again….

I couldn’t believe my eyes!

The tomatoes were 3 times bigger
than yesterday…the lettuce had
doubled in size, and the cucumbers
had these really cool shoots coming
out that actually attached themselves
to the fencing and wrapped around
it several times to hold on.

The garden growth made me think
about my kids who are now 20 and 24!
They used to be little and then one day and
I can’t tell you when, they transformed
into grownups.

How incredibly fast this happened…
in a blink of an eye. They are with me
for a few weeks visiting and with this
also the memories of their childhood.

What did I do right? What mistakes
did I make? All I know is that they
still like coming home and they
tell me that I live in a “pleasure
palace” where they get great food
and lots of spoiling…(which by
the way they totally appreciate).

So, today, look your kids in the
eyes 5 times and from now on
keep doing it. Let me know if
you can pin point the day they
grew up…right in front of your eyes.

Best wishes for a peaceful home,

Your parent coach,
Susan
